General Information of Rueang Subdistrict,

Mueang District, Nan Province

 

    With the size of 33,599.95 sq.m., or approximately 20.99 rai of land,  the north, south, and east borders of Rueang subdistrict is adjacent to Mueang district, while its west border is adjacent to Wiengsa district of Nan province. The administration of Rueang is divided into 8 villages as follows.

 

                  Village 1 Baan Sri Napan

                  Village 3 Baan Rueang

                  Village 4 Baan Ta Waen

                  Village 5 Baan Na Ngam

                  Village 6 Baan Na Muang

                  Village 7 Baan San Pasak

The Topography of Rueang Subdistrict  

    The area of Rueang is covered by 30% of plain, 10% of highland, and 30% of mountains and foothills. Most part of the district is lush with forest and layers of mountains, the origin of 4 streams: Luang, Sod, Muang, and Mon.

    Its abundant watershed forests include Huai Luang, Huai Sod, Huai Muang, and Huai Mon forests. Some natural tourist attractions are Doi Mok Waterfall, Huai Luang Forest, Puja Lon Hill, and small reservoirs around the site.

 

Occupations

    Most of the population is engaged in agriculture - the sticky rice plantation that they start growing in June and harvest in January of each year.

    Tea plants are grown and sold to some intermediaries. There are three forms of tea leaves sold: steamed, fermented, and fresh young leaf. Each of them are sold in different prices which create great income among the people of Rueang. A handful of steamed tea leaves cost 4-5 baht. A handful of fermented tea leaves, to be harvested only in the rainy season for 3-4 times per plant, could be sold for 5-6 baht, while the fresh young tea leaves are sold, for tea drinks manufacturing, at 20 baht per kilogram.

    Other economic crops  are also grown such as corn, soybean, and sesame. Some residents also work for the labor in the subdistrict’s eight villages, especially after the rice harvest and fishery season.

    Additional occupations involve tea making, tea leaf fermentation, bamboo shoot pasteurization, animal husbandry, basket work handicraft, embroidery, silverware, and artificial flowers making.
